About Us

Deep in the forest,
you find yourself.

Avintaquin Campground sits along Forest Route 516 in the heart of Ashley National Forest, one of Utah's most breathtaking and least-traveled wildlands. We're not a resort with a lake view — we're a place where the trees close in, the trailhead is your driveway, and the only alarm clock is a loon calling at dawn.

Whether you're a seasoned backpacker seeking solitude or a family trading screens for starlight, our campground offers a raw, unpolished connection to the high-elevation wilderness that defines eastern Utah. No frills. No crowds. Just you and the forest.

The Experience

Everything you need.
Nothing you don't.

Primitive Camping

Set up your tent among ancient pines on cleared sites nestled into the hillside. Each spot offers privacy, shade, and a canopy of stars you won't find anywhere else in the state.

Trail Access

Step out of your tent and onto miles of unmarked and marked trails winding through subalpine meadows, granite ridges, and hidden alpine lakes. The backcountry is your backyard.

Campfires & Stargazing

Gather around a crackling fire under the Milky Way. Our dark-sky location makes every night a celestial show — no light pollution, just pure cosmic wonder.

Wildlife Viewing

Mule deer graze at dawn, elk bugle in the valleys, and golden eagles circle the thermals above. Bring binoculars — the forest is alive and always performing.

Fishing & Streams

Cold mountain streams and alpine lakes teem with trout. Pack your rod and wade into waters so clear you can count every stone on the bottom.

Four-Season Access

Spring wildflowers, summer green, autumn gold, winter silence. Each season reveals a different face of the forest. Come back — there's always another reason to return.

The Forest

A forest that
remembers silence.

Ashley National Forest spans over 1.8 million acres of rugged eastern Utah wilderness. Ancient bristlecone pines — some over 500 years old — stand as silent witnesses to centuries of change. Alpine lakes shimmer at 11,000 feet, and the air is so clean it feels like a different planet.

Avintaquin sits in a remote corridor along Forest Route 516, far from the noise of civilization. This is a place where the only roads are deer trails, the only lights are stars, and the only schedule is the rising and setting sun.

  • Over 40 miles of hiking and backcountry trails
  • Wildlife: elk, deer, eagles, fox, and more
  • Seasonal stream access and alpine fishing
  • No cell service — guaranteed digital detox
